Ag Canada Still Sees Lower Chickpea Area

VANCOUVER - Mar 21/15 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian chickpeas Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg updated its supply and demand forecasts for 2015. It is important to note that its projections are neither official nor based on a survey of farmers.

It predicts chickpea production this year will reach 115,000 MT from 148,000 acres, compared to 131,000 MT from 180,000 acres in 2014.

Agriculture Canada expects exports to reach 70,000 MT in 2015-16, compared to 70,000 MT in 2014-15 and 48,000 MT last season. Domestic use is forecast at 63,000 MT next season, compared to 64,000 MT this season and 62,000 last season.

Season ending stocks are forecast to finish the 2015-16 marketing year at 125,000 MT, versus 135,000 this season and 130,000 MT the previous season.
