MELBOURNE - Mar 3/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast, with the ridge weakening today as the high shifts further east. An upper level trough over the Coral Sea will shift westwards into the eastern tropics today. A slow moving surface trough over the west of the state will become more mobile today, extending the hot conditions in the west into the southeastern interior. The heat should then focus through central and southeast parts on Thursday as the surface trough continues to shift east, most likely contracting off the southern coast Thursday afternoon or evening. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayA medium to high chance of showers and possible storms over the northern and eastern tropics. Just the slight chance of a shower about the remaining east coast near and north of Fraser Island. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms in the far west. A slight chance of an afternoon or evening shower or storm over the Carnarvon Ranges and Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A hot day through much of the interior and southeastern inland. Moderate to fresh northeast to northwesterly winds over the interior, tending southeasterly in the far southwest. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere, fresh at times near the east tropical coast.Fire Danger - Very high over parts of the northern, central and southeastern interior.Thursday 5 MarchThe surface trough will shift eastwards over central and southeastern Queensland, most likely contracting off the southern coast late in the day. The fresh southerly wind flow in the wake of the trough will result in a decrease in temperatures through the southwest, while temperatures through central and southeastern parts will rise significantly ahead of the trough passage. A dry airmass will accompany the trough, resulting in just the slight chance of a shower or storm near the southern coast and through the Wide Bay and Capricornia. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms will persist through the northern tropics and northwest. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere.Friday 6 MarchThe surface trough and a fresh southeasterly wind change will progress further northwards towards central coast waters and extend into the central interior, generating some showers and also the possibility of storms over areas north of about Mount Isa to Clermont to Fraser Island. The southeast should be mostly fine with just the slight chance of a shower. Fine and sunny conditions are expected in the west with temperatures decreasing further, particularly in the southwest.Saturday 7 MarchA high over the Tasman Sea will extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The surface trough will shift further westwards into the interior of the state, while an upper level trough will most likely move into the central west. This will result in a slight to medium chance of showers and storms over northern and central districts, extending into the central west during the day. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue through remaining western parts. Just the slight chance of a shower is expected in the southeast.Sunday until TuesdayThe monsoon is expected to reform over the northern Coral Sea during the outlook period, while high pressure centres in the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A series of upper troughs are expected to move northeastwards over the state, while a surface trough will remain slow moving over the interior. Showers and storms should therefore continue through northern districts and near the surface trough over the central west and southern interior. Some showers are likely near the remaining east coast in the onshore wind flow. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist in the far west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland --> Cairns (Saddle Mountain) Radar reinstalled Rainfall Forecast Terminology Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information Fire Weather Forecast Areas About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Twitter Youtube Blog Google+ Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 03:00 on Wednesday 4 March 2015 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2015, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
