Brazil's Net Pulse Imports Collapse

VANCOUVER - Feb 27/15 - SNS -- High average trading levels for dry edible beans combined had a material impact on pulse demand by Brazil in 2014, with the result net imports were down sharply, according to data contained in the Platinum edition of STAT.

Official trade data from Scavage, Brazil's Foreign Trade Statistics division, reveals net imports slipped under 126,000 metric tons (MT) for the calendar year, compared to over 338,000 the previous year and the recent five-year average of just over 255,000.

The last time net imports were this low was in 2009, when just under 123,000 MT were imported. Net purchases peaked in 2013, reflecting the impact of small harvests across the 2012-13 growing season.
