USDA Cuts Dry Bean Harvest Estimate

WASHINGTON - Dec 10/14 - SNS -- This year's dry edible bean hartvest in the United States ended up at 28.7 million cwt (100 pound units) or 1.301 million metric tons (MT), up 17% from last year, according to the latest crop production estimates from the USDA.

The Deember estimate is down from October, when output was pegged at 29 million cwt or 1.317 million MT. Evdn thought actual seeded area was more than previously thought, yields were lower, resulting in the production decline.

Planted area is now pegged at 1.72 million acres, up 26% from 2013. Harvested area is forecast at 1.66 million acres, 26% above the previous year. The average United States yield is forecast at 1,725 pounds per acre, a decrease of 142 pounds from last year's yield.
