More Mangeable Chickpea Stocks

VANCOUVER - Dec 6/14 - SNS -- Chickpea stocks are returning to more manageable levels in western Canada, with farmers in Saskatchewan reporting they grew just 123,000 MT on 142,500 acres, compared to 180,400 on 159,000 acres last year.

Significantly, output was slashed 14% from the October crop report because of lower than expected yields.

Growers said they produced 72,800 MT of kabuli chickpeas and 52,100 MT of other classes. Statistics Canada does not report production in Alberta, making output in Saskatchewan the official number.
