Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 20/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high will weaken and the ridge will relax from late Wednesday. A broad area of low pressure and hot to very hot conditions will develop over the southern interior of the state from mid week, extending to remaining southern, western and central parts from Friday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdaySome showers about the east tropical and central coasts. Showers developing along the southern coast and nearby inland from the south. Possible afternoon showers or storms over the Darling Downs. The slight chance of showers over the western Peninsula late in the day. Fine and sunny elsewhere. A warm day in the southwest with moderate to fresh northeasterly winds. Moderate to fresh and gusty east to southeasterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger -  Very High over the northern and central interior.Wednesday 22 OctoberThe high in the Tasman Sea will weaken slightly but still maintain a firm ridge along the east coast. The onshore wind flow should lead to some showers about the east coast, mostly in the tropics. An approaching surface trough will lead to increasing instability and the chance of some showers and storms developing over the southern interior, though with little rainfall expected. Warm conditions will persist in the southwest of the state.Thursday 23 OctoberThe high in the Tasman Sea will weaken, relaxing the ridge and onshore wind flow further along the east Queensland coast, with shower activity now greatly decreased and confined to the east tropical coast. The surface trough near the southwestern border of the state should shift a little further east, increasing instability through the southern interior and far southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt with some showers and storms expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur elsewhere. Very warm to hot conditions will spread through the southern interior.Friday 24 OctoberThe weak trough will most likely shift further east into the southeastern interior of Queensland, with a broad area of instability developing over the south of the state. Some showers and storms are likely, particularly near the southern border ranges. A slight chance of showers will persist near the east tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the state. A hot day is expected through much of the interior and southeast inland.Saturday until MondayA relatively static weather pattern will result in hot to very hot conditions through much of western, central and southern Queensland during the outlook period, particularly inland parts. A broad area of instability will also most likely generate some showers and storms through southern districts, possibly extending into the central and northern interior from Sunday. Mostly fine conditions are expected in the tropics, with just the slight chance of showers about far northern parts.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
