MELBOURNE - Oct 20/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weakening high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. The ridge will be strengthened by a new high pressure system that will move in to the Tasman Sea early Tuesday. A cooler southeasterly wind change will move through southeastern Queensland during Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of MondayFine and clear across much of the state. Medium chance of showers about the tropical east coast. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds.Tuesday 21 OctoberFine and sunny across much of the state. Medium chance of showers about the east coast, particularly the tropical east coast and in the southeast. Slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm over the far southern Darling Downs. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds.Fire Danger - Very High over the northern and central interior.Wednesday 22 OctoberThe high in the Tasman Sea will weaken slightly but still maintain a firm ridge along the east coast. The onshore flow should lead to some showers about the east coast. Fine and sunny over the interior except for the chance of some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior near a weak surface trough. Warm in the southwest and southern interior.Thursday 23 OctoberThe high in the Tasman Sea will weaken as a new high pushes eastwards to the south of Tasmania, resulting in the shower activity contracting to the northern tropical coast in the onshore wind flow. A weak surface trough may bring showers and perhaps some thunderstorms to the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Warm in the southwest and southern interior.Friday 24 OctoberThe new high will push towards New Zealand with isolated showers about the northern tropical coast. A surface trough moving into southeastern inland parts of Queensland will combine with weak instability to produce afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the southeast and into the central interior. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Warm over southern and western Queensland.Saturday until MondayThe weak surface trough over eastern Queensland may continue tor bring some showers and possible thunderstorms to eastern districts. Showers and thunderstorms may extend into the central and northern interior from Sunday. A weak ridge should continue to push an onshore flow and some showers onto the tropical east coast.
