Modest Harvest Selling Pressure

VANCOUVER - Oct 18/14 - SNS -- North American lentil markets finished the week with a slightly easier undertone, reflecting increased availability of new crop product from farmers in Canada and the United States.

Preliminary quality data from the Canadian Grain Commission surprised market participants because of the high percentage of No 2 Canada or better lentils.

Of 145 samples received as of the 15th of October, 96 were No 2 Canada and 34 were No 1 Canada. Average protein content was higher than last season, while starch levels were down slightly.

The results are not considered representative of the overall quality of the crop because they are derived from voluntary submissions by farmers to the harvest quality sample program and not from samples submitted for commercial grading.
