Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 21/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over southeast Australia will move eastwards into the Tasman Sea during today and move slowly across the Tasman Sea during the next few days. The high extends a firm ridge along Queensland's east coast which will gradually weaken over the next few days as the high moves away. An upper level disturbance over southwest Queensland will move gradually eastwards today and weaken rapidly overnight before clearing off the east coast on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayScattered showers, thunderstorms and rain areas over Queensland's southeast tropics, central coast, and central and southern interior with moderate to locally heavy falls about the Central Highlands and Coalfields and northern Maranoa districts. More isolated showers and thunderstorms over the western interior. Isolated showers about the state's far southeast and about the northeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the far north and west. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over most of the state.Tuesday 23 SeptemberThe upper trough should weaken and move off the east coast, while the high should eastwards across the Tasman Sea and push showers across Queensland's eastern districts. Showers will more frequent about the Cassowary Coast and may tending to rain periods at times. Fine and mostly sunny in the west of the state and about much of the north.Wednesday 24 SeptemberThe high in the Tasman Sea should push some showers across Queensland's far eastern districts, while an approaching upper level trough may produce some isolated showers and storms over the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.Thursday 25 SeptemberThe ridge should weaken along the east coast leaving the eastern tropics fine and mostly sunny. Fine and mostly sunny also over the northern and western interior. Scattered showers and isolated storms over the southern interior and southeast districts as the upper trough moves over the region.Friday until SundayThe upper level trough should move off the southeast coast late in the week, allowing showers and storms to clear from the state's southeast. A high should drift over Victoria, leaving Queensland fine and mostly sunny except for some showers about parts of the east coast in an onshore flow.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
