Higher Chickpea Bids Seen For Canada

VANCOUVER - Sep 21/14 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian chickpeas Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg updated forecasts for 2014.

It reports chickpea production this year will total 151,000 MT from 180,000 acres, compared to 177,000 MT from 200,000 acres in 2013.

Agriculture Canada forecasts exports will reach 90,000 MT in 2014-15, compared to 48,000 MT last season. Domestic use is forecast at 64,000 MT in the coming marketing year, versus 62,000 last season.

Season ending stocks are forecast to finish the 2014-15 marketing year at 135,000 MT, versus 130,000 last season and 54,000 MT the previous season.

Agriculture Canada estimates grower bids averaged $500 MT for all classes of chickpeas last season and predicts they will range between $525 and $555 MT in 2014-15.
