MELBOURNE - Sep 2/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system just to the east of Victoria is expected to move northeastwards to lie well off the central NSW coast on Wednesday then further eastwards over the Tasman Sea on Thursday. A high pressure system over the Bight will be centred near Adelaide tonight before drifting slowly eastwards across Victoria on Wednesday and Thursday. A small low pressure system will cross Bight waters on Wednesday before moving northeastwards across eastern South Australia on Thursday then weakening over northern NSW on Friday. A new high pressure system will cross Bight waters to reach Bass Strait on Friday and should be located over eastern Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayShowers over southern and mountain areas, widespread in the east with local hail and thunder but more isolated in the west. Becoming fine across the northern plains. Rather cold southerly wind, fresh to strong about the Gippsland coast and on the eastern highlands. Snow above 900 metres.Wednesday 3 SeptemberEarly frost inland, mainly in the north. Scattered showers over East Gippsland. Isolated showers over remaining southern areas during the morning contracting eastwards in the afternoon. Dry across the north with a sunny morning but high cloud increasing from the west in the afternoon. A cool day with light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.Thursday 4 SeptemberEarly frost inland over the northeast. Scattered showers developing in the northwest with isolated showers over the far east. A cool mostly cloudy day with generally light winds.Friday 5 SeptemberIsolated showers over East Gippsland, otherwise fine and mostly sunny. Morning frost patches in the north. Generally cool with light to moderate southeasterly wind.Saturday 6 SeptemberMorning fog patches then a fine, cool to mild and mostly sunny day.
