Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge extends along the east Queensland coast. A vigorous surface trough will enter far southwestern Queensland this evening and move rapidly eastwards, most likely contracting off the southern coast during Tuesday evening. Warm northwesterly winds will persist over far eastern parts of the state Tuesday but cool south to southwesterly winds are expected elsewhere in the wake of the trough. These will spread to the whole state on Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayFine and clear over the much of the state. Light to moderate northeast to northwesterly winds, fresh at times in the far southwest ahead of a gusty southwesterly change in the evening. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere, fresh at times along the far north tropical coast.Tuesday 2 SeptemberFine and mostly sunny across most of the state. Patchy cloud across the south of the state accompanying the trough with possible isolated showers about the southern interior near the New South Wales border. Moderate to fresh and warm northwesterly winds through the Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast districts leading to enhanced fire dangers. Dry, cool and gusty south to southwesterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Severe in the Southeast Coast district. Very High for remaining northern and eastern districts.Wednesday 3 SeptemberThe trough will shift further east into the Coral Sea with a dry, cool southerly wind flow and fine and sunny conditions extending through Queensland in its wake. Early frosts are likely through the southern and southeastern interior under the clear skies. Some light shower activity may occur through Torres Strait. A deepening low over the Tasman Sea will most likely extend a large south to southeasterly swell into Gold Coast waters from the late afternoon or evening.Thursday 4 SeptemberA large high will enter the Great Australian Bight, extending a ridge and dry airmass into Queensland with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected across the state. The clear skies and lighter winds should lead to early frosts through the southern, central and southeast interior, with possible early light frost on the Atherton Tablelands. The deep low in the Tasman Sea will continue to extend a large south to southeasterly swell into Gold Coast waters.Friday 5 SeptemberThe high should move slowly east across southeast Australia whilst the low in the Tasman Sea will move eastwards towards New Zealand. Much of the state should be fine and mostly sunny, although an upper trough may produce isolated showers about the southeast interior. Early frosts will continue over the southern, central and southeast inland. An upper level trough will possibly enter southeastern and central Queensland during the weekend and should generate some shower and storm activity.Saturday until MondayThe high should remain slow moving near Tasmania through the outlook period, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Early frosts should continue over the southeast interior on Saturday but minima should warm thereafter as winds turn more northerly. An upper level trough will possibly enter southeastern and central Queensland during the weekend and may generate some shower and possible storm activity. The remainder of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
