MELBOURNE - Sep 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front crossing Victoria will move out over the Tasman Sea on Tuesday and form into a low pressure system off the northern NSW coast by Wednesday. A high pressure system will cross the Bight on Tuesday and will be centred near Adelaide Tuesday night. The high will weaken on Wednesday as it crosses NSW but an associated ridge will slowly cross Victoria on Wednesday and Thursday. A low pressure trough will then move northeastwards from the Bight across eastern South Australia on Thursday then over northern NSW on Friday. Another high pressure system will then move from Bight waters across Tasmania on Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayRain areas over central and eastern districts, easing from the west. Scattered showers to follow, mainly in the south with local hail and thunderstorms. Snowfalls developing down to 1300 metres late tonight. Mild northerly winds at first in the east, strong over Alpine regions but colder southwesterly winds gradually extending from central areas into the east this evening.Tuesday 2 SeptemberScattered showers with local hail in southern and mountain areas tending more extensive over East Gippsland. Isolated showers over the northern plains but dry over the far northwest. Showers falling as snow above 900 metres. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the east. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Wednesday 3 SeptemberEarly frost inland, mainly in the north. Scattered showers over East Gippsland with isolated showers possible elsewhere in the south, although clearing from the southwestern and central districts in the afternoon. Dry with cloud increasing in the north. A cool day with light to moderate southwesterly winds tending light northerly over the west late in the day.Thursday 4 SeptemberEarly frost inland over the east. Scattered showers developing in the northwest with isolated showers over the southwest and over the far east. A cool mostly cloudy day with generally light winds tending east to southeasterly in the afternoon and evening.Friday 5 SeptemberScattered showers over East Gippsland. Isolated showers possible across central and northern areas but dry over the southwest.
