Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 31/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front will move across the State today clearing eastern districts tonight. A high pressure system will cross the Bight on Tuesday and will be centred near Adelaide Tuesday night. The high will weaken on Wednesday as an associated ridge crosses Victoria. The next cold front will cross the Bight on Wednesday then weaken as it moves into Victoria on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayA band of rain extending from the west during the morning and reaching the east by late afternoon. Scattered showers following the rain then easing over central and western districts during the late afternoon and evening and clearing over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the west in the afternoon. Rain over Alpine areas then tending to snow on the higher peaks by late afternoon, lowering to 1300 metres tonight. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds reaching gale force over Alpine areas, shifting cooler west to southwesterly from the west.Tuesday 2 SeptemberScattered showers with local hail possible in southern and mountain areas tending more extensive over East Gippsland. Isolated showers over the northern plains apart from the Mallee. Showers falling as snow above 900 metres. Isolated thunderstorms possible over Gippsland in the afternoon. A cool day in the north, cold in the south with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Wednesday 3 SeptemberEarly frost inland, mainly in the north. Scattered showers over Gippsland with isolated showers possible elsewhere in the south, mainly near the coast. Dry with cloud increasing in the north. A cool day with light to moderate southwesterly winds tending light northerly over the west late in the day.Thursday 4 SeptemberEarly frost inland over the east. Scattered showers in the south tending more isolated in the north. A cool day with generally light winds tending southerly in the afternoon and evening.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDV10310
