Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 21/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A large high near Tasmania will move slowly to the east and strengthen over the next few days, extending a firm ridge through most of Queensland. A weak upper low lies inland near the Queensland/NSW border, while slow-moving surface troughs lie over the eastern inland and just off the southeast Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers over southeast, southern and central inland parts of Queensland. Isolated thunderstorms over the Maranoa, southern central highlands and northwest Darling Downs. Isolated showers over the tropical east. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds for most of the state.Friday 22 AugustIsolated showers over southeast, southern and central inland parts of Queensland, tending scattered near the southeast coast. Possible thunderstorms about the Maranoa and Warrego district. Isolated showers over the tropical east. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds for most of the state.Saturday 23 AugustThe high in the Tasman Sea will continue moving slowly to the southeast, maintaining the east to southeasterly flow and bringing isolated showers to most of the east coast. An upper trough is expected to remain over the southeast of the state, maintaining the moderately unstable conditions with scattered shower activity likely for the southeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Sunday 24 AugustThe high will move very slowly to the east, bringing isolated showers to the east coast in the onshore wind flow. Showers may tend more scattered about the southeast coast with slight instability remaining. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are likely elsewhere.Monday 25 AugustThe high will continue to move very slowly to the east, bringing isolated showers to the east coast in the onshore wind flow. Showers may tend more scattered about the exposed parts of the southeast coast with a weak trough expected in the area. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are likely elsewhere.Tuesday until ThursdayThe high will continue to remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea while weakening during the outlook period, maintaining a ridge with an east to southeasterly flow and bringing isolated showers to the east coast. The next upper trough will push through southern inland Queensland, though some uncertainty exists with the strength and movement. However instability and associated shower activity is likely to continue over the southeast during the outlook period.
