LITTLE ROCK - Aug 18/14 - SNS -- The latest weekly rice market summary for the United States was released by the USDA today.
National Weekly Rice Summary (Arkansas-Louisiana-Texas-California) Domestic Trend In the south, old crop long and medium grain rice prices steady, however Louisiana trading 1.00-3.00 lower; parboiled prices steady; second heads steady; brewers steady. Rice by-products: rice bran prices mostly steady; rice millfeed steady; hulls steady. Louisiana new crop Rough Rice trading .41 cents CWT lower, however very limited current trades as most farmers holding for higher prices. Most current Rough Rice trades due to storage issues for new crop. Louisiana is currently harvesting with parts of Texas and Arkansas just getting started harvesting, however we have no current progress reports at this time. In California, old crop medium and short grain milled rice prices steady; second heads and brewers steady. Rice by-products: rice bran prices steady; hulls steady. Currently old crop trade very light with most producers waiting until new crop harvest starts. New crop harvest scheduled to start around Sept 1st with milled rice available around Sept 15th. On the CME Rough Rice settlements for Friday August 15th, Sep 2014 contract closed .05 higher at 12.905. Nov 2014 closed .07 lower at 12.745. Jan 2015 closed .075 lower at 12.935. US dollar index on Friday August 15th settled at 81.45.
