MELBOURNE - Jul 30/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front will move from south of Western Australia northeastwards to cross Victoria during Thursday while a deep complex low pressure system passes south of Tasmania. Another cold front will move from the Southern Ocean to cross Victoria on Friday with a very cold southwest to southerly airflow extending over the State. The next high pressure system will then rapidly approach from the Bight, reaching western Victoria late on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers mainly on and south of the divide, more extensive about the west coast and northeast ranges. Only isolated showers over the northern plains and mainly dry over East Gippsland and the far northwest. Cool to mild and mostly cloudy with a fresh to strong west to northwesterly wind.Thursday 31 JulyA band of rain reaching the west during the morning and extending across the remainder of the State in the afternoon and evening, followed by scattered showers with local hail and thunder. Snowfalls lowering to 700 metres from the west during the evening. Cool to mild at first with strong northwesterly winds, locally gale force in southern and elevated areas. A colder squally westerly wind change extending from the west in the late morning and reaching the east by evening.Friday 1 AugustShowers, mainly on and south of the divide with local hail and thunder. Snow falls down to 500 metres. A very cold day with cloudy periods. Fresh westerly winds turning stronger squally southwest to southerly from the west in the afternoon.Saturday 2 AugustVery cold at first with widespread inland frost. Showers on and south of the ranges becoming isolated during the morning. Dry on the northern plains. Snowfalls to 600 metres lifting back to 1200 metres in the afternoon.
