Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 30/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure lies across northern New South Wales, while a series of cold fronts are moving from the Southern Ocean across southeast Australia. The passing of these fronts is generating gusty winds over southern and central parts of the state, but little rainfall due to the presence of a generally dry airmass. A stronger cold front is forecast to bring a significant cold snap at the end of the week, after which conditions should gradually ease as the next high pressure system becomes established.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers about the southeast inland, widespread on the western slopes of the southern ranges with snow on the alpine peaks. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Early frost patches on the northern tablelands. West to northwesterly winds, fresh to strong and gusty in the southeast.Thursday 31 JulyIsolated showers developing across the southern inland, tending scattered about the Southwest Slopes. Snow showers on the alpine peaks. Fine and sunny elsewhere. North to northwesterly winds becoming very strong and gusty across the south, and shifting more westerly later.Friday 1 AugustShowers across the southern inland, more likely about the Southwest Slopes and possibly extending to central districts during the day. The chance of thunder and small hail over the south. Snow levels lowering to around 700 metres on the southern ranges, and the chance of snow about higher parts of the Central Tablelands. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Northwesterly winds in the northeast, with a cold and gusty west to southwesterly change extending across the remainder.Saturday 2 AugustShowers about central parts of the coast, more likely in the vicinity of Port Stephens. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Southeast to southwesterly winds. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDN10031
