MELBOURNE - Jul 29/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will approach southwestern Victoria this morning before slipping away to the southeast during the afternoon. A stronger cold front will move across the Bight to approach western Victoria Wednesday evening and will then move across the State on Thursday. Another cold front will cross the State early Friday, with an intense low pressure system moving through central and eastern Bass Strait. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers extending from the west, mainly on and south of the ranges. Snow above 1600 metres. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the west coast this morning. Fine over the far northwest and over East Gippsland. A partly cloudy, cool to mild day. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds, reaching gale force at times on the ranges and near the coast.Wednesday 30 JulyScattered showers mainly on and south of the divide, although isolated showers extending to southern parts of the northern districts during the afternoon. Fine in the far northwest and over East Gippsland. Cool to mild and partly cloudy with a fresh to strong west to northwest winds.Thursday 31 JulyAreas of rain contracting eastwards across the State during the day, although more patchy in the far northwest and over Gippsland. Fresh to strong northwest winds reaching gale force at times in the south, shifting strong and squally west to southwest during the day with a cold change. Scattered showers with local hail and thunder to follow and snow falls extending down to 500 metres at night.Friday 1 AugustShowers on and south of the divide with local hail and thunder, Isolated showers elsewhere, clearing from the west and northwest later in the day. Snow falls down to 500 metres at first, rising to 800 metres later. A cold day with cloudy periods.
