MELBOURNE - Jul 29/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure across northern New South Wales is weakening, while a series of cold fronts are moving across the Southern Ocean towards southeast Australia. This pattern is expected to generate gusty winds over southern and central parts of the state from Tuesday onwards, although the airstream is expected to be too dry for any widespread precipitation. A stronger cold front is forecast to bring a significant cold snap at the end of the week, after which conditions should gradually ease as the next high pressure system becomes established. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine apart from isolated showers on western parts of the southern ranges, falling as snow on alpine peaks. Early frosts inland, mainly about the tablelands, then a mostly sunny day. West to northwesterly winds, becoming strong and gusty in the southeast.Wednesday 30 JulyIsolated showers on western parts of the central and southern ranges, becoming scattered in the south, with snow on the alpine peaks. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Early frost patches on the tablelands. West to northwesterly winds, fresh to strong and gusty in the southeast.Thursday 31 JulyIsolated showers developing across the southern inland, tending scattered about the Southwest Slopes. Snow showers on the alpine peaks, lowering to around 1200m late in the day. West to northwesterly winds becoming strong and gusty across the south.Friday 1 AugustShowers developing across the southern inland, increasing on the Southwest Slopes and possibly extending to central districts during the day. Showers may produce small hail in some areas. Snow levels lowering to around 700 metres on the southern ranges, and the chance of snow about higher parts of the central tablelands.
