MELBOURNE - Jul 23/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is centred over the western Tasman Sea, while a low near Adelaide is linked to a trough over central Australia. A cloud band associated with this trough is bringing patchy rain to south of the state today, although rain totals are unlikely to be significant. By late Friday the low is expected to be near Bass Strait, with the trough moving towards the northeast of New South Wales before clearing the state on Saturday. Another high pressure system is forecast to develop over the region during the weekend in the wake of the trough. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayPatchy rain across the southern and central inland, mainly morning or early afternoon. Snow on the Alps above about 1500 metres. The chance of a shower or two on the far north coast. Fine and partly cloudy across the northern inland, and along the remaining coast. Areas of morning fog in the east. Northeast to northwesterly winds, shifting more westerly near the SA border through the afternoon.Friday 25 JulyPatchy rain over the central and northern inland, more likely on western slopes of the ranges, and possibly reaching central parts of the coast. Isolated showers across the south, more likely in the Riverina and South West Slopes districts, with snow on the Alps above 1500 metres. Mostly fine although partly cloudy in the far west and northeast. Early fog and frost patches on the tablelands. North to northwesterly winds, freshening about higher ground during the day, tending westerly in the west.Saturday 26 JulyIsolated showers about the southern and central ranges, and adjacent western slopes, with snow on the Alps above 1400 metres. Showers in the northeast, mainly on western slopes of the ranges, mostly clearing during the afternoon or evening. Early fog and frost patches. Fine and mostly sunny along the southern and central coasts, and in the west. Early fog and frost patches on the tablelands. Northwest to southwesterly winds, fresh and gusty about higher ground.Sunday 27 JulyFine apart from the chance of showers on western parts of the southern ranges, falling as snow on the Alps. Early frosts on the tablelands and adjacent areas.
