Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 22/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over southeastern Australia extends a ridge over Queensland. The high will move slowly eastwards and is expected to be situated over the central Tasman Sea by Friday. A trough will enter the far southwest on Thursday and move eastwards affecting southern and central areas on Friday and Saturday. The trough should move through the southeast early on Sunday, while another high develops in its wake.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayVery isolated showers about the exposed islands along the east coast and the far northeast coast. Frosts about parts of the central and southern interior. Mostly light to moderate southeast to northeast winds.Thursday 24 JulyThe high over the Tasman Sea will continue to extend a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough is expected to enter the west of the state, however conditions should remain fine over the interior. Isolated showers are expected about most of the east coast in an onshore wind flow.Friday 25 JulyThe high should continue to move eastwards across the Tasman Sea while weakening. The surface trough is forecast to move slowly eastwards into the central and southern interior triggering isolated showers and thunderstorms, with shower activity becoming more scattered during the afternoon. Isolated showers are likely over most of the remaining eastern districts in an onshore wind flow.Saturday 26 JulyThe weakening high should continue to move eastwards across the Tasman Sea while a new high develops over central Australia. The surface trough is forecast to continue to move slowly eastwards through the southern interior helping to trigger showers and possible thunderstorms over southern districts to its east. Isolated showers are likely about remaining eastern districts in an onshore wind flow, with the possibility of isolated showers developing over the central interior as low level moisture feeds in ahead of the surface trough.Sunday until TuesdayThe surface trough should move off the southeast Queensland coast early on Sunday with the new high extending a firm ridge into northeastern Queensland in the wake of the trough. This should cause isolated showers about the east tropical coast in an onshore wind flow but bring more stable conditions throughout the rest of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDQ10700
