U.S. Durum Crop Shrinks 4%

WASHINGTON - Jul 11/14 - SNS -- Durum wheat production in the U.S. is forecast at 59.6 million bushels, down 4% from 2013, according to the USDA 's latest crop production estimates.

The United States yield is forecast at 42.1 bushels per acre, down 1.5 bushels from last year. Expected area to be harvested for grain totals 1.42 million acres, unchanged from the Acreage report released on June 30, 2014 but down slightly from last year.

Durum wheat crop development has progressed behind normal in Montana and North Dakota this year, the two largest Durum-producing States. As of June 29, crop conditions in Montana and North Dakota were rated 70% and 86% good to excellent, respectively. Yield forecasts are down from last year in Montana and North Dakota
