Modest Surprise Over Lentil Acreage
VANCOUVER - Jun 28/14 - SNS -- International lentils markets were modestly surprised by this year's Statistics Canada seeded area estimates for 2014.
Land in the crop was pegged at 3.24 million acres, slightly higher than expected by many processors and exporters, and well above the March seeding intentions.
Though the second largest acreage in Canadian history, if yields are at their recent five-year averages, production won't reach levels which would leave Canada with burdensome stocks.
