Markets Pay Attention to Canadian Chickpeas

VANCOUVER - Jun 28/14 - SNS -- Chickpea markets finished the week's trading on a relatively quiet note, with markets paying increased attention to the situation in Canada.

Statistics Canada revealed that 180,000 acres of all classes of chickpeas will be sown this year in Saskatchewan, along with an unspecified quantity in Alberta.

That represents no change from last year, which was down 10,000 acres from 2012. If yields are average, Canada would be expected to produce 147,000 metric tons (MT) of product, down from last year's 180,000 MT harvest.
