Crop Seeding Delayed in Key Bean States

WASHINGTON - May 6/14 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's dry edible bean crops is making good progress in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, but no progress was reported by USDA NASS crop reporters in other parts of the United States.

No seeding progress was reported in Montana, Nebraska, Minnesota, or Michigan. California's crop report did not refer to edible beans, other than to note that the state experienced above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation during the past week.

Cold and rainy conditions continued to delay field work in Michigan, which reported just 2,4 days suitable for fieldwork during the past week.

Seeding of all crops has fallen two weeks behind schedule in Minnesota as cool and wet conditions continue to keep farmers off their fields. "Precipitation was widespread and above normal for many counties. There were 0.9 days suitable for fieldwork. Statewide, April was the 6th consecutive month with cooler than normal mean temperatures."
