VANCOUVER - Apr 26/14 - SNS -- North American lentil markets finished the week's trading on a firmer note over disappointment with the amount of lentils Canadian farmers intend to seed this year.
Though up 20% from last year, many market participants wanted to see a 30% increase to help offset an intended 12% decrease in plantings in the United States.
Concern that this summer's monsoon could be below normal helped fuel interest in green lentils, which are used as a substitute for pigeon pea by some mills.
