Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 22/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow moving surface trough extends from the Gulf Country towards the southern interior of Queensland. A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The ridge will weaken as the high shifts east through the Tasman Sea during the next few days. A weak trough will shift west over the Coral Sea towards the east tropical and central Queensland coasts during Wednesday. Dry conditions will persist throughout much of southern and western Queensland throughout the forecast period.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayMostly cloudy with scattered showers and morning drizzle areas about the eastern tropics. Isolated showers and storms over the Peninsula and through the northern Gulf Country, more frequent north of about Weipa. Isolated showers about the central coast, possibly developing southwards towards the Capricorn and Fraser coasts. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate southeast to northeast winds in the north, fresh at times about the coast. Light winds in the south, tending moderate northerly through the interior during the morning.Wednesday 23 AprilAn upper level trough will enter northern and central Queensland, increasing instability. Moisture will also increase about the central coast and eastern tropics as the surface trough over the Coral Sea shifts west, with scattered showers expected and the chance of isolated storms inland. Isolated to scattered showers and storms will continue about the Peninsula. The upper trough will most likely extend some cloud through the far northwest of the state and southern tropical interior though with just the chance of isolated showers expected. Isolated showers will occur about the Fraser and Capricorn coasts as winds tend more onshore. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist through southern and western districts.Thursday 24 AprilThe upper trough will move further east over central Queensland. The surface trough over the Coral Sea will remain slow moving near the east tropical coast, with a moist wind flow to its south extending into the east tropical and central coasts and generating showers and possible isolated storms. Isolated to scattered showers and storms will occur through the Peninsula. The upper trough may still extend some cloud from the far northwest of the state through the central interior and to the Capricornia though with only isolated showers expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected through southern and western districts.Friday 25 AprilShowers will continue about the southern tropical and central coasts near the weak surface trough. Scattered showers and isolated storms will persist over the Peninsula, with isolated showers expected over the remaining tropics and into the central interior. The upper trough in the north of the state will contract east off the central coast while a new upper trough will shift east over the southern interior of the state. This new trough will increase instability about the southeast with isolated showers and possible afternoon storms, mostly over inland parts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist in the west.Saturday until MondayA high will move east over southeastern Australia and into the Tasman Sea during the outlook period, gradually extending a firm ridge and moderate to fresh southeasterly winds along the east Queensland coast. Isolated to scattered showers will occur over eastern, central and northern districts in the onshore wind flow. A series of upper level troughs will also maintain instability over eastern and northern districts, with isolated thunderstorms likely, particularly over inland parts. Mostly fine conditions are expected in the west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
