Initial Bean Seeding Progress in N.D.

WASHINGTON - Apr 21/14 - SNS -- Initial dry edible bean seeding activity was reported in North Dakota during the past week, with 1% of this year's intended crop in the ground, according to USDA NASS crop reporters.

No seeding progress was reported in Montana, Nebraska, Minnesota, or Michigan. California's weekly crop update did not refer to edible beans, other than to note that "Fresno County growers reported aphid infestation in garbanzo beans."

Row crop seeding is expected to soon start in Michigan, while snow is still keeping farmers in Minnesota out of their fields.

"There were 0.6 days rated suitable for fieldwork statewide compared to the average of 2.8 days," crop reporters said. "Multiple locations reported new record low temperatures on April 15th, and Lake of the Woods County reported a new all-time statewide low temperature of -4 degrees for that date. April 16th brought widespread snow and new daily record snow amounts to many parts of Minnesota."
