Sunflower Intentions Below Expectations
VANCOUVER - Apr 5/14 - SNS -- Sunflower seed marketers were surprised by the USDA seeding intentions estimates released on March 31.
Total sunflower area fell below industry forecasts, with land in oil-type slipping, while farmers intend to the increase confection sunflower area.
Total sunflower area is up 1% at 1.59 million acres, compared to pre-report estimates of a two million acre crop. Farmers will adjust actual seeding plans based on market reaction to their current intentions.
