Chickpeas Quiet Before Holidays

VANCOUVER - Dec 20/13 - SNS -- International chickpea markets were relatively quiet before the start of the Christmas and New Year's holiday period, with prices generally unchanged.

Limited selling pressure continues to be seen from exporters in India and, to a lesser extent, from suppliers in Argentina, North America and Mexico. Traders in those countries are mostly in holiday mode.

In its latest update on the outlook for pulses and special crops, Agriculture Canada reiterated that Canadian chickpea production totalled 182,000 MT from 222,000 acres this year, compared to 161,000 MT last year.
