Canada's Chickpea Crop Uncertain

VANCOUVER - Oct 13/13 - SNS -- There is growing uncertainty about the overall quality and quantity of chickpeas which will be harvested in Saskatchewan this year.

Alberta's crops were harvested early and are in generally good condition. But, Saskatchewan's were seeded alter and have suffered more weather during the growing season, including recent rainfall events in southwestern Saskatchewan which may have resulted in some sprouting and quality damage.

Not only is there ongoing uncertainty about whether Statistics Canada's acreage estimate of 205,000 acres will stand up through the final crop report of the year, yields could continue to fluctuate as the harvest pushes toward completion.
