Field Pea Markets SteadyVANCOUVER - Mar 6/10 - SNS -- Field pea markets finished the week's trading on a steady note, with the needs of exporters and processors remaining in good balance with grower selling. Markets remain concerned about the depth of demand from the Indian subcontinent through the remainder of the marketing year. The latest update for rabi seeding progress shows total pulse area is up 5.4% from last year and gram or chickpea area up 6.9% at 8.92 million hectares. Average yields in India are low by world standards, but all indications are that the rabi season pulse harvest will more than offset the shortfall in last summer's kharif crop.
