Sugarcane Crop StressedWASHINGTON - Sep 11/09 - SNS -- Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed is forecast at 28.0 million tons, down 4% from the August 1 forecast but up 1% from 2008, according to the USDA. Producers intend to harvest 852,700 acres for sugar and seed during the 2009 crop season, down 10,000 acres from last month and 15,300 acres below last year.
