Field Pea Exports Collapse in JuneVANCOUVER - Jul 2/08 - SNS -- Canadian field pea and specialty crop exports reported by members of the Canadian Ports Clearance Association sank to zero in June for the first time since January of 2005. Clearances at terminals reporting to the association totalled 1,425,153 metric tons (MT) between August and June. This compares to 1,367,855 MT last season and is well behind the previous record 1,692,581 MT shipped during the first eleven months of the 2005-06 marketing campaign. While it is surprising to see no special crops leave Canada on a bulk conventional basis from reporting terminals, it is not entirely surprising. Through the end of April, Canadian exporters officially shipped 2 million MT of field peas, representing 87.9% of all peas expected to leave the country during the 2007-08 marketing campaign.
