Chickpea Values Hold SteadyVANCOUVER - Apr 25/08 - SNS -- Few changes were reported on international chickpea markets during the past week, against news Syria banned exports of pulses in an effort to control domestic food price inflation and prevent shortages from developing later in the season. The ban from Syria comes at a time when Turkey and Mexico are looking at smaller harvests that last year; Canadian and U.S. seeded area is expected to collapse because grower bids did not keep pace with gains in cereal grain markets; and India remain a relatively reluctant exporter at current values.
