Daily Carlot Meat Trade Summary

DES MOINES - Dec 9/03 - SNS -- The USDA's Argicultural Market Service (AMS) office here issued its latest daily review of the U.S. carlot market for various types of meat.


USDA Carlot Meat 4:00 Summary, Compared to Previous Day
Prices in dollars per hundredweight, Equated to FOB Omaha Basis  

National Boxed Beef Cutout
   Boxed beef cutout values steady to weak on light to moderate 
demand and moderate offerings. Select and Choice chuck, round, 
and loin cuts steady to firm. Select rib cuts generally steady, 
while Choice rib cuts lower. Beef trimmings firm on light to 
moderate demand and offerings.
   Estimated composite cutout value of Choice 1-3 600-750 lbs
carcasses dn .58 at 156.62, 750-900 lbs dn .69 at 155.45;
Select 1-3 600-750 lbs dn .33 at 142.92, 
750-900 lbs up .08 at 141.33; based on 89.80 loads 
of Choice cuts, 120.74 loads of Select cuts, 11.13 loads 
of Trimmings, and 79.02 loads of coarse ground trimmings.

Carcass Price Equivalent Index Value
   Estimated carcass price equivalent value of Choice 1-3 600-750
lbs dn .36 at 151.81, 750-900 lbs dn .43 at 151.06; Select 1-3
600-750 lbs dn .23 at 137.33, 750-900 lbs up .04 at 136.28.
Current index reflects the equivalent of 297,076 head of cattle.

NATIONAL 5 DAY-ROLLING CUTTER COW CUTOUT 
   The Cutter cow carcass gross cutout value was estimated at 
103.09 dn 1.96.

By-Product Drop Value
   Hide and offal from a typical slaughter steer was estimated at
10.29, up .11.

National Carlot Pork  
   Sales reported on 54.50 loads of pork cuts and 15.0 loads of
trim/process pork.
    Compared to Monday's Close:    Fresh bone-in loins firm to
2.00 higher; butts steady; sknd hams mostly 4.00-6.00 lower; sdls
bellies 14-16 lbs steady; lean trimmings 1.00 lower. Trading slow to
moderate, with light to moderate demand and offerings.
   *Calculations for a 185 lb Pork Carcass 51-52 percent lean 
0.80" -0.99" back fat at last rib.* **56.06 dn .74.**
Loins bone in fresh 1/4 inch trim 21# DN-LGT 88.00-93.00; 
Hams bone in trimmed, 17-20 lbs trim spec 1 54.00; 
20-23 lbs trim spec 1  45.00-50.00; seedless bellies
