Oilseed Crop Covers Half SAF NeedsWASHINGTON - Jun 1/05 - SNS -- South Africa produces about a million metric tons (NT) of sunflower and soybeans per year, covering half the country's needs, reports the U.S. agricultural attache for the country. "South Africa is a plant protein deficient country," the agricultural attache said. "The production of sunflower is the main supply of local protein due to agronomic conditions and oil preferences, is spite of the high demand for soybean meal."
