Australian Pig Slaughter Continues ClimbingDONALD - Jul 4/01 - STAT -- The number of pigs slaughtered in May posted its seventh consecutive monthly increase, reaching 426,600 head during the month, according to the latest data compiled by the Australian Census Bureau. This is the highest monthly figure since March 1999 and resulted in the production of 30,801 metric tons (MT) of pig meat during the month. Slaughter activity for other animals reached 642,500 head for cattle; 84,500 calves; 1,392,000 sheep; and 1,610.800 lambs.
