Pacific Rim Experiences Organic GrowthVANCOUVER - Jul 2/01 - STAT - Several countries in the Pacific Rim are experiencing much organic growth, on several different levels including developing an organic industry or expansion. In Vietnam, the government has begun to check imported goods against a list of acceptable food additives and ingredients. This kind of thinking benefits organic exporters. Japanese organic imports currently have to go through an organic recertification process to confirm that goods meet local organic standards. The United States is working with the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture to attain standard equivalency to allow US organic goods to be imported without the need of a Japanese corporation. A recent poll of Korean consumers found that most consumers are looking into more organic food purchases, and 33% said they would be willing to pay 50% more for organic goods. This trend is common with many European nations like the UK and Germany.
