Pulse Producers Declined in 2002WASHINGTON - Jun 24/04 - SNS -- The number of agricultural producers growing dry edible beans, field peas and lentils in the United States posted steep declines between 1997 and 2002, according to data contained in the 2002 agricultural census for the United States. It remains to be seen whether the extension of the farm program to field peas, lentils and small caliber chickpeas will arrest the overall trend toward fewer producers growing pulses in the United States.
