United States Vegetable Market Trend Report

WASHINGTON - Jun 22/04 - SNS -- The latest weekly vegetable market trend report was released by the USDA today.

EXPECTED MOVEMENT IS FOR THE PERIOD JUNE 20-July 3, 2004.  PRICES ARE FOR
MONDAY, JUNE 21, 2004 COMPARED WITH MONDAY, JUNE 14, 2004. UNLESS OTHERWISE

20-21-11---Movement expected to decrease. Most sheds have finished packing
for the season. Limited availability is expected for up to two more weeks
depending on the weather. Supplies insufficient to establish a market.

   SALINAS VALLEY DISTRICT, CALIFORNIA---Shipments 15-11-9---Movement
expected to decrease.  Most shippers have finished for the season.  Supplies
in too few hands to establish a market.  Light supplies expected to continue
for several more days.  California shipments tabulated by the Market News
Service totaled 3,167 thousand hundred weight this year, as compared to 2,506
thousand hundred weight for last year.  This was an increase of approximately
21 percent.  LAST REPORT.
   CARIBBEAN IMPORTS---Imports 9-13-11--- Imports from Peru. Movement
expected to remain about the same. Trading fairly active. Prices higher.
11 pound cartons bunched jumbo mostly 18.00, large 15.00-16.00, standard
mostly 17.00, small mostly 14.00-15.00. Quality good.
   MICHIGAN---Shipments 4-4-4---Movement expected to decrease seasonally
as the season winds down.  Trading very active.  Prices higher.  28 pound
pyramid cartons/crates standard and large size bunched all-green mostly
34.00.  Quality good.  The processing cash price agreed upon by many
processors and the Michigan Asparagus Growers Division of the Michigan
Farm Bureau is 62 cents for spears with a maximum length of 7.5 inches
and 5/16 inch in diameter.  Total-to-date through June 12th processed
20 million pounds combined frozen and canned.  Last season total 22
million pounds.   Light shipments expected through the week.  LAST
