Skype Expands to Include LinuxLUXEMBOURG - Jun 21/04 - SNS -- Free internet-based long distance telephone service from Skype Technologies S.A. is now available for the Linux operating system, extending the reach of the origin Windows and Pocket PC versions. The Skype software is being fairly quickly adopted by the international specialty crop industry, especially in countries outside North America where international long distance telephone rates are relatively high. Voice quality is good and on international calls users in the industry report the sound quality is sometimes better than that of regular telephone calls, according to individuals here at STAT who are using the software. In announcing the Linux version, Skype said all its software is "free and easy to download, simple to use, and offers superior call quality and security." The company added, "Skype for Linux retains the same core features of the Windows version of Skype software including free Skype to Skype worldwide calling, the ability to participate in conference calling with up to 5 people, instant messaging and access to the Global Directory."
