Agricore's Share of Grain Handle SlipsWINNIPEG - Jun 17/04 - SNS -- Agricore United's share of the western Canadian grain handle slipped during the three months ending April 30 from 37.8% last year to 34.7%, according to the company's latest financial results. However, for the 12 months ending April 30, Agricore United's share of the grain handle advanced from 33.6% last year to 34.8% this year. The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) reported industry shipments of 13.7 million metric tons (MT) of the six major grains (wheat, barley, oats, canola, flax and peas) during the six months ended April 30, 2004, an increase of 5.7 million MT (72%) over the same period in 2003 - reflecting a continuation of the first quarter trend to more normal shipping patterns. Nevertheless, this level of shipping still only represented 84% of industry shipments in the same quarter ended April 30, 2001 (prior to the effects of either the 2001 or 2002 droughts) and 81% of industry shipments for the same six-month period in 2001.
