Greece Expects Larger Tomato HarvestATHENS - Jun 15/04 - SNS -- Fresh tomato production is expanding at a fairly rapid pace in Greece, a situation which is expected to be maintained through the 2004-05 marketing year. Last year's total tomato production is now estimated at 1,527,000 metric tons (MT), up slightly from the previous year. Total industrial tomato production in 2003-04 was reported to be 927,000 MT, a 7% increase compared to the 2002 crop. For the fourth consecutive year, notes the U.S. agricultural attache here, Greece did not succeed in reaching the EU imposed national industrial tomato quota of 1,211,241 MT.
