Citrus Harvest Estimates ImproveWASHINGTON - Jun 10/04 - SNS -- The projected size of other citrus crops in the United States were lifted in the latest USDA crop report, as output of grapefruit was boosted 1% and numbers for tangelo, tangerine and temples were left unchanged from the previous crop report. The forecast of the 2003-04 U.S. grapefruit crop is 2.13 million tons, up 1% from the May 1 forecast and 3% above the previous season. Florida's grapefruit forecast, at 40.8 million boxes (1.73 million tons), is up 1% from the previous month and 5% above last season's final utilization. The white grapefruit forecast decreased to 15.9 million boxes (676,000 tons), 1% below last month and 2% below last season. The colored grapefruit forecast, at 24.9 million boxes (1.06 million tons), is up 2% from last month and 11% above last season's final utilization.
