United States Vegetable Market Trend Report

WASHINGTON - Jun 2/04 - SNS -- The latest weekly vegetable market trend report was released by the USDA today.

AND 29, 2004 IN THAT ORDER IN THOUSAND HUNDRED WEIGHT (100,000 LBS) UNITS.
EXPECTED MOVEMENT IS FOR THE PERIOD MAY 30-JUNE 12, 2004.  PRICES ARE FOR
TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 2004 COMPARED WITH MONDAY, MAY 24, 2004. UNLESS OTHERWISE
STATED SALES ARE F.O.B. SHIPPING POINT BASIS (INCLUDING DELIVERED SALES

27-24-22---Movement expected about the same. Trading moderate. Prices

Large 28.00-30.00, Standard 32.00-34.00. 20 pound carton Green Washington
Consumer bunched 18.00-20.00. Quality good. Warmer weather over the next
few days should help with product availability.
   MICHIGAN---Shipments 3-4-4---Movement expected to decrease slightly
as recent cooler temperatures has slowed crop growth.  Trading moderate.
Prices lower.  28 pound pyramid cartons/crates standard size bunched
all-green mostly 32.00-34.00.  Quality good.  The processing cash price
agreed upon by many processors and the Michigan Asparagus Growers Division
of the Michigan Farm Bureau is 62 cents for spears with a maximum length of
7.5 inches and 5/16 inch in diameter.  Total-to-date through May 22nd
processed nearly 10.2 million pounds combined frozen and canned.  Last
season total 10.5 million pounds.

approximately June 10. Growers report the crop is slightly ahead of

   EASTERN SHORE AND EASTERN VIRGINIA---Light harvesting is currently
underway although shipments are very light.  Current supplies are in too
few hands to establish market.  Growers report the crop is slightly
ahead of schedule due to warmer than normal temperatures during May.

   EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA---Shipments 35-37-30---Movement expected to
remain about the same. Trading moderate. Prices unchanged. Cured 40 pound
cartons U.S. One medium 15.00-16.00. Predominant varieties are Beauregard,
Hernandez and Jewel.
   LOUISIANA---Shipments 18-17-21---Movement expected to remain about
the same. Trading moderate. Prices lower. Cured 40 pound cartons U.S. One
medium Beauregard 14.50-15.00.
---TOMATOES
   CENTRAL AND SOUTH FLORIDA---Shipments 619*-696*-626---Movement expected
to decrease. Trading moderate.  Prices lower.  25 pound cartons loose
mature green 85 percent U.S. One or better 5x6 size 6.20-7.20, 6x6 size

   WEST FLORIDA---Shipments 0-0-0---Movement expected to increase as
shippers begin operations during the week of May 30.  Sufficient volume is
expected to release the initial F.O.B. report by June 4.  FIRST REPORT.
   MEXICO CROSSINGS THROUGH OTAY MESA, CALIFORNIA---Crossings 34-41-67---
Movement expected to increase seasonably.  Trading slow. Prices lower.
Vine Ripes 2 layer 4x4s-4x5s mostly 6.85-8.35, 5x5s-5x6s mostly 6.85.
Quality generally good.
   CENTRAL DISTRICT, CALIFORNIA---Shipments 0-0-0---The initial harvest is
expected to begin by June 9.  FIRST REPORT.
   SOUTHEASTERN ARKANSAS---Shipments 0-0-0---The initial harvest is expected
to June 5 and increase sharply the week of June 6.  Above normal rainfall
was received during the growing season.  The harvest will begin about the
same time period as last season. Expect the initial first F.O.B. report to
be issued during the week of June 6. FIRST REPORT.
---CHERRY TOMATOES
   CENTRAL AND SOUTH FLORIDA---Shipments 71-67-73 (Cherry 20-17-20, Grape
51-50-53)---Movement expected to remain about the same.  Trading moderate.
Prices cherry type lower, grape type generally unchanged. Including palletizing
and cooling.  Flats 12 1-pint basket Cherry type 6.20-7.20; Flats 12 1-pint
containers with lids Grape type 7.20. Quality generally good.
---TOMATOES, PLUM TYPE
   MEXICO CROSSINGS THROUGH NOGALES, ARIZONA---Crossings 90-56-87---
Movement expected to decrease as most growers finish for the season.  Trading
slow.  Prices lower.  25-pound cartons Extra large 5.85-6.35, large mostly
5.85, medium 5.85.  Quality variable.
