USDA Outlook Friendly for SpecialtiesVANCOUVER - May 12/04 - STAT -- The USDA's latest round of crop production and international supply and demand forecasts did not consider specialty crops, but some industry participants see the reports as having a potentially bullish impact over the coming months. If the USDA's analysis is borne out, markets for primary agricultural commodity markets will reassert themselves during the 2004-05 marketing year, lifting price expectations of both end users and growers. This should affect prices consumers are willing to pay for specialty crops and the attitudes of growers toward selling what they grow -- especially in countries where buyers compete at the grower level and where producers do not deliver unsold merchandise to cleaning plants.
