AMARILLO - May 11/04 - SNS -- Market conditions for cattle, hogs and lambs in the major markets in the U.S. midwest are summarized in the latest daily report from the USDA.


Daily Livestock Summary

                             CATTLE

In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas,
Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; on Tuesday, not
enough confirmed sales for a market trend comparison.  Steers: Live basis; (all
Grades: 1,150 head) 89.50, weighted average 89.50. Dressed basis; (all Grades:
149 head) 140.00, weighted average 140.00.  Heifers: live basis; (all
Grades: 141 head) 90.00, weighted average 90.00. Dressed Basis; (all Grades:
No sales).

Terminal markets: So. St Paul slaughter steers and heifers sold steady-1.00
higher.  Steers: Choice 2-3 1230-1590 lbs 90.00-94.00.  Heifers: few Choice 2-3
1235-1257 lbs 92.00-93.00.

 Compared to last week:  Feeder steers 1.00-3.00 higher.  Feeder heifers
2.00-3.00 higher.  Stocker cattle 3.00-6.00 higher.  Light weight calves
steady.  Demand very good for all classes.
 Feeder Steers:  Medium and Large 1  425-500 lbs mostly new crops
123.50-135.50; 525-600 lbs new crops 111.00-125.50, few yearlings 117.00-
131.50; 600-650 lbs 114.50-121.75, fleshy new crops 99.50-118.25; 650-
700 lbs 107.50-117.00, few fleshy new crops 101.00-107.50; 700-750 lbs
103.75-113.50; 750-800 lbs 103.00-107.50; 800-850 lbs 100.00-103.75;

                                 HOGS

The direct trade prices are based on 185 lbs hog carcass with 0.9-1.1 inch back
fat and 6 inch square loin/2.0 inch depth plant delivered. National direct
trade barrows and gilts were 1.53 higher with prices ranging from 71.50-85.01,
weighted average price 79.49.  Iowa-Minnesota was 1.78 higher at 71.50-83.00,
weighted average price 80.26. Western Cornbelt sold 1.52 higher at 71.50-83.00,
weighted average price 79.92 and the Eastern Cornbelt was 1.97 higher at 73.03-
85.01, weighted average price 78.39.

At South St Paul and Sioux Falls barrows and gilts sold 1.25-2.50 higher with
47-50 percent lean 220-270 lbs selling from 58.00-60.00.

104.00.  Wooled: Choice, end Prime 120-140 lbs 90.00-95.00.
