MICHIGAN---Shipments Very Light---Movement expected to increase with
the anticipation of warmer temperatures for the week of May 9. Most of the
early harvest continues to be diverted to processors or local roadside
stands. Some harvesting was curtailed on May 10 due to heavy weekend
rains in the Northern and West Central regions. The processing cash
price agreed upon by many processors and the Michigan Asparagus Growers
Division of the Michigan Farm Bureau is 62 cents for spears with a maximum
length of 7.5 inches and 5/16 inch in diameter.
